OT is a form of therapy that helps patients of all ages to improve their ability to perform and participate in daily living activities. It is a client-centred and evidence-based approach that focuses on the patient’s goals and abilities to improve overall functioning and quality of life.
Our Occupational therapists specialise in working with children who have physical, mental, developmental, or emotional disabilities that affect their ability to engage in daily activities such as dressing, eating, working, or socialising. The goal of occupational therapy is to help the child achieve greater independence, productivity, and enjoyment in their daily lives. This is done through a variety of interventions, such as teaching new skills, adapting the environment or task, using assistive technology, or providing emotional support.
The therapy may include the following processes:
Evaluation to assess the child's abilities, limitations, and goals to determine the best course of treatment.
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) training such as bathing, dressing, and eating are performed to improve the child's functional independence.
Sensory integration therapy is used to help the child process and respond to sensory information more effectively.
Cognitive rehabilitation is proposed for children with cognitive deficits such as memory loss, attention deficits, or executive functioning deficits.
Emotional support may involve counselling to help the children cope with the challenges of their disabilities and improve their mental health.
